Year End Recital PDF Print E-mail

Our dance year comes to an end with a celebration and a recital to be held in May.  Participation in recital is optional and will not affect your child’s placement in a class.  We use our recital to showcase the year’s work.  We feel it is a great motivator and self-esteem builder for our dancers.  It teaches that hard work is appreciated and goals are achieved through performance.  Every child becomes a star at recital. We will present all of our students in one of two shows. *The first show is for preschool through 2nd grade and beginning dance students of all ages. The first show will also include solos/duos and some of the dance team production material. The second will be for students in classes for 3rd grade and older with previous recital experience an an advanced level of training. We present our students in two shows in order to better accommodate the needs of students of different ages and ability levels. This allows every student the opportunity to perform and rehearse in an age appropriate environment. Our younger students will present a show at an auditorium of one of our area schools. Our older show will be presented in a Dinner Theater style and will be held in a facility that accommodates a rented stage, tables and food services. Lengthy rehearsals are reserved for older, more advanced students. Our younger, less experienced students are allowed to rehearse for their show without feeling pressure to “hurry” through their rehearsal so someone else can take the stage. Our Dinner Theater is more appropriate for the more mature, experienced students. We have some very strict rules regarding rehearsals and recitals. We ask that you carefully follow our plan in order to help us keep participants properly disciplined and safe while in the theater. All recital rehearsals are required, not optional.

Specials: Solos/Duos/Trios

Students have the option of a solo, duo or trio for the year end recital. We prefer that the students be over 7 and have at least 1-2 years of dance training. Solos are taught in about 6-8 hours of scheduled lessons over the period of about 2 months. The lessons include learning the material and cleaning the routine. Once the teacher is finished with the solo and it has been cleaned, the lessons are discontinued and the student is expected to continue to rehearse on their own until recital rehearsals begin and they will be scheduled for rehearsals, but not additional classes. The solo must be performance ready. A SOLO ROUTINE IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT ONCE IT IS TAUGHT. Be sure your child is mature enough to handle this responsibility before committing to a solo/duo or trio. If it becomes necessary for the teacher to conduct extra rehearsals because the student has forgotten their solo, private lesson charges will be applied for the extra rehearsals.

The fee for participation in a solo is $200. The fee for participation in a duo or trio is $150 per participant (unless the participants are siblings, which makes the total for duo $200). Participation in a trio is $100 each. An additional costume expense will be necessary for the routine. NO solos/duos/ trios will be taught after March 15, schedule early, solo/duo and trio classes are limited and fill up very fast.
